Summer Series- Honoring Your Body through Biblical Self-Care

Biblical Self Care Honoring your bodySister

Please join me this Summer as I practice honoring our bodies through Biblical Self-Care. Each week I will post information on how we can honor our bodies through what we eat and how we use our bodies to glorify Jesus. Through each lesson I teach, I refer back to the Bible verse in John 10:10 "The enemy came to rob, steal and kill, but I came to give life abundant." I offer you the parallels through which God provides ways to honor our bodies and the enemy's deception of loving our bodies that leads to death. As I've taken this journey, it's been eye-opening to see how many ways the enemy attempts to take our lives and lead us away from the abundant life Jesus died to give us. Let me know if any of it is helpful to you, and I would love to hear how God has taught you things through this journey.

God made food to give you abundant life

On a personal note, one of the adverse effects of trauma, particularly sexual abuse, can be that you disassociate from your body. It's something I have always struggled with. I have done an immense amount of healing on the inside, but I am at a point in my journey where I want to reconnect with the good body God gave me and honor it. My body, as well as yours, has gotten us through a lot. It carried me through trauma, abuse, weight gain, and loss... My body has protected me from the fear of more abuse and from the unwanted looks of men, all in an attempt to make me feel safe. My body has served me well, but it's time to serve my body back well. After all, we were only given one. I know I am safe now. Now my body needs to receive that truth lovingly and gently.

I recognize that God created all this natural food for us to eat that is rich in vitamins and nutrients that ward off anxiety and depression and a slew of illnesses that lead to death. It reminds me of my favorite Bible verse that my Ministry was developed around; John 10:10 "The enemy came to rob, steal, kill and destroy, I came to give you life abundant." When I think about how weight can kill us through the foods this world has created via Junk Food, I realize that the enemy tried to rob me of a life of joy and peace with the trauma I experienced. He has used that trauma to cocoon me with weight, disguising it as my safety net. The enemy is the author of lies. Unfortunately, we live in a society that, just like me, has also bought into this lie.

As I awaken my body, I encourage you to as well. To this new safe reality, I plan to love my body well through the Biblical Self-Care tip of honoring our bodies. Found in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV), he asks, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."

Join me this Summer on this journey.

Love, Bethannah
